Project Win! Centennial College’s Mass Timber Building
In honour of Earth Week, we’re announcing one of our most sustainable Mechanical project wins to date.We’re proud to announce our partnership with EllisDon, Smith + Andersen, DIALOG and Smoke Architecture to construct the first zero-carbon, mass timber higher-education building in the country!
This 136,000 sq ft extension of the A-Block Building at Centennial College’s Progress Campus in Scarborough, Ontario is deeply committed to social responsibility. Every corner of the building has been designed to highlight the College’s commitment to both Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation, and leading-edge sustainability, as it is set to achieve LEED Gold Status and WELL Silver certification, a new and growing standard for human health and well-being.
Plan Group is responsible for installing the mechanical systems that will contribute to the building’s sustainability in a big way. Recycling, reducing and reusing will be done whenever possible;
- Runoff and rainwater will be captured and reused for irrigation;
- The roof will be home to solar panels that will preheat domestic water for distribution throughout the building, and;
- A heat recovery wheel will reclaim energy from exhaust and other systems to warm the building throughout the winter.
