In late December, our team attended the 2022 Building Transformation’s Innovation Spotlight Awards, where Plan Group was announced as the winner in the Digital Supply Chain & Fabrication Award category for our Modular Racking Program at Corner Brook Acute Care Hospital.
The robust modular racking program implemented at Corner Brook Acute Hospital is the first of its kind in Newfoundland and the first in Canada to be done under seismic constraints and a steel structure. Designed to do more with less, three multidisciplinary crews of nine tradespeople fabricated and installed approx. 70,000 ft of pipe, 75,000 lbs of sheet metal, and 5000 ft of cable tray on 212 modular seismically engineered racks of 20ft or 30ft lengths.
Overall, the program reduced the sheet metal peak work-hours and pulled forward work to be performed earlier in the project. This helped to mitigate constraints on the project caused by several logistics delays and limited workforce availability for a remote project of this size and calibre.
This prestigious award recognizes the most innovative companies and professionals in the industry. The robust modular racking program implemented at Corner Brook Acute Hospital demonstrated the value of a coordinated, multi-trade prefabrication approach in healthcare settings and the benefits of early adoption in Design-Build contracts.
