Cornell Community Centre

Cornell Library / 2013

A multi-purpose facility requires multi-disciplinary thinking.

Connected directly to the Markham Stouffville Hospital, the Cornell Community Centre and Library is part of an innovative new campus promoting health and wellness through active lifestyles. This unique facility serves the needs of the entire community with a dozen diverse spaces, including a Triple Gymnasium, Aquatics Centre, Rehearsal Hall, Public Library, Multi-Sensory Room, multi-purpose rooms, and dedicated spaces for Youth and Seniors.

The City of Markham knew it needed an exceptional group of committed professionals to realize this ambitious, multi-faceted project. There were many challenges, not the least of which was the lighting system. New, state-of-the-art lights were to be installed in multiple areas with limited access, including 35 feet above the pool in the Aquatic Centre. The City sought out the most reliable and innovative partner. One with the experience to take a truly holistic view. One that could identify issues before they surfaced. They turned to Plan Group.

Using all the skill, vision, dedication and passion we’re known for, our experts designed and implemented not only the Electrical, lighting and power for the Centre, but also all of the Structured Cabling, security, audio visual and fire alarms needs. A broad scaffold was built over the entire pool area to allow trade access to the ceiling area. We used aircraft cable assemblies to ensure quick installation of ceiling lights that are suspended high above the deck. Our knowledge and experience means there’s always a way to get the job done. When there’s no room for error, we’re at our best.

The completed Cornell Community Centre and Library is a modern, vibrant and welcoming facility that intelligently promotes the health and wellness of the citizens of the City of Markham and visitors and patients of the Markham Stouffville Hospital. We’re proud to have brought our foresight and ingenuity to a project that benefits so many people in so many ways.
